Bad Joe's – Inside the Founder's Mind
This isn't really a badminton club, it's a social organisation built on meetups for badminton. In my mind, I wanted to create something meaningful for others. I like to see this as a place where people can connect with new friends, partners, and colleagues.
About the club
Bad Joe's was created back in 2024, with the mission of bringing people together through a sport that most of us played once or twice during PE lessons growing up. The bar to join should be low, and everyone should be welcome.
The classic slogan for the project back then was: "Är du också en Joe?! En Joe är en person som gillar att träffa nya människor, lira lite badminton & kanske dricka en bärs eller två." (Roughly: "Are you also a Joe? A Joe is someone who likes meeting new people, playing some badminton, and maybe having a beer or two.")
There's also a story behind the name and the mascot. "Bad" comes from the feeling of badminton, and "Joe's" from the expression "average Joe", playing on our core values that everyone is welcome, no one is superior, and it's all just for fun. But average Joe wasn't quite enough for us; we wanted a bit of a twist. So we turned one of nature's fiercest predators into the friendliest mascot around, standing on the bench, always cheering you on. And with that natural green colour, he was basically born to play badminton.
Moving forward, the club will continue meeting up once a month for a game of badminton and some well-deserved "After Feathers". We hope to see you there, both old members and new ones.
